I have read advice in TOTV to have a professional come in just before the year warranty is up to inspect your new home for defects. This is IMHO sound advice. However, cosmetic issues that can be caused say the day after you buy the home such as scratches on windows should be reported immediately. That's the reason there is a walk through in the first place.

You're not going to find that studs in the walls are warped but you should be able to see dents in your cabinets, scratches , cracks etc. Doesn't matter how good the builder is, accidents do happen....
