Do you have any idea what you have to go through for a security clearance? I do - had to do it three times for this job. They called my ex-wife, a person I used to work for who had since moved to Israel and relatives I'd barely heard from in years. I had to get a lot of crap concerning discrepancies between my Social Security records, birth records and the vast majority of my other records ironed out (I was illegally adopted with no records - name and birthdate changed). Finally, getting a passport was the first sign that I'd gotten everything corrected. The security clearance confirmed that.
