Because even the most powerful will someday answer to God. Most of what i have read about Him is that He will not bless a nation who does not protect the most innocent life among them. I'm pretty sure we are already feeling the affect of His withholding of the blessings...Not that He is destroying our nation, but I think He could be standing back and allowing us to suffer the consequences of our actions. Like any loving father would do.
