My wife and I recently moved to TV for the same reason; my mother-in-law is getting older and we wanted to be closer in order to help her. We are also younger (forties) but have not encountered any problems here due to our age. In fact, we have been welcomed by everyone we have met. There are still a ton of activities to get involved with (regardless of age) and you can do as little (or as much) as you like.

The job situation can be difficult. Outside of TV it is fairly rural and there is not much opportunity. My wife is an RN so it was relatively easy for her to find work at the hospital here in TV. As a teacher, it has been much harder for me to find work, as Florida is cutting way back on educational spending.
