We recently had a water softener installed after living here full time for three years by Ecowater for $1500. The water is very hard and you will notice the effects on the plumbing eventually. I installed a charcoal filter on the refrigerator for the drinking water and that takes care of the chlorine taste. The water is safe to drink either way so don't think you have to run out and buy something. I personally don't think there is a need for a purifier system but they will try to sell you everything! If you do decide to use Ecowater let me know so I can get a $25 reward
