Hi Sandy-welcome from a 3 year survivor who is counting the days until I can get off the cancer meds and get rid of the side effects. You will LOVE it here...it is the best decision we ever made. We bought the second day we were here.
I know lots of people disagree with this, but we bought a courtyard villa because the dogs rule our lives and we really wanted them to have a yard. Lots of folks love the underground fencing, but it does not keep people or other animals out of your space. Just about everyone here in our villa neighborhood has one or two furry kids and completely understanding of the occassional bark or two. New versus old is a hard decision...new is great because everything is new and bright and shiny and for the first year any little thing that may go wrong is covered. New means all the neighbors are in the same boat with meeting new people. We are blessed with the best neighbors you could ever have...the ladies get together at least twice a week for cards or games. I teach a bead class once a week.

Old is good because the bond will be at least partially paid off and all those things that will cost a LOT are likely done ie: landscaping...removing the awful pine needle mulch (bug/tick heaven), gutters, replacing the carpet with tile or laminate. The carpets are really bad...There is always something.

Gas or electric is like the great debate here. Purely a matter of personal choice. We got gas because hubby knows how to do maintenance on a gas vehicle and TV is getting really big. That is the first shock we got when we came here....the place is HUGE....much larger then we ever could have dreamed.

The classes at the LLL center are, in my humble opinion, well, unusual. Let me just stop at that. Get a copy of the course manual and form your own opinion.

In any case, you will love it here....bring a check book.
