I don't either, Richie. But the only reason it was formed was because the elected representatives in the House and Senate couldn't reach any kind of agreement on fiscal problems. So they appointed a "super committee" of only 12 members, representing the entire 535 to hammer out some answers that the larger group failed at.
So now it appears that even the super committee is going to fail to agree on anything. That's going to result in some automatic spending cuts to kick in, with no thought or concern as to the effect or what's going to be cut. I guess that way none of the 535 will have to take responsibility for whatever cuts occur.
But let me predict one other thing that I expect from the 535. Within a short time, they'll introduce legislation to
overturn the automatic cuts that resulted from their failure. And we'lll be back where we started, borrowing 42 cents of every dollar qe spoend from the Chinese!.
In the meantime, our Congress has decided, with the "assistance" of the frozen pizza and potato grower lobbies, that tomato paste is a vegetable and french fries are healthy. So our school kids can continue to survive on pizza and french fries for school lunches. Does it take a degree in home economics to know that this legislation is simply ridiculous...and unhealthy!
