It is against the law to drive when over the .08 limit on alcohol, but its OK to eat 10,000 calorie units of sugar and drive while going in and out of a diabetic coma. I would rather ride with someone sipping on a beer than someone drinking a McD's chocolate malt. Yes, alcohol slows down the response time of the driver, but so does driving when your over 60 years old. Using that logic a 30 year old driver who just had a few beers is still quicker than a 60 year old that had none. Like most thing, we don't address the problem, we just assign blame and not always to the right part of the issue.

I think an over medicated old driver is more dangerous than a driver drinking a beer behind the wheel.

So when the problem is the guy that crawls out of a bar and into the drivers seat is what we are concerned about, why give a ticket to a person sipping on the first beer this week just because he/she is sitting in the drivers seat. As you waste time writing that ticket, you are punishing the innocent person while the guilty one is weaving down the road.

It is like taking guns from responsible owners, rather than focusing on the crooks.
