We have 3 receivers. The old non DVR receiver needs to be reprogrammed after a power outage, the 2 DVR receiver do not need to be reprogramed. I would contract DirectTV and explain your problem, you may be able to get your receiver upgraded for free. We do not use the old receiver much so it is not an issue for us.
