You nailed it! The "Rules are for others" syndrome.

Also re: bunkers and ball marks...

It has been my belief since I came to TV, that many golfers here have never played before getting here. The idea is, "It's free so I'll try it. "

No problem with this, but these people do not always know or understand the rules, conventions, and etiquette.

I have thought that an "Introduction to the Golf Course" course should be required before golfers receive their PGA cards (Play Golf Acceptably)!!!
