Some years ago, my father showed me a letter he received telling him what his monthly benefit would be for the coming year. I was sure he received that in October or November, but I am even more certain I did not really pay attention to the timing.

So, my question is, is that normally due later in December or did this go the way of those annual statements SS used to send to working folk a few months before their birthdays telling them about their future benefits? The last of those came out in '09.

Anyone with more than a year's experience with SS probably knows the answer. Share, please?
I would call them to get specific answers to your questions, (800.772.1213). The only increase I know of is the COLA for 2012 that is 3.6% and I have not received a letter yet. I may be wrong but once you start collecting, that form of future benefits is not sent. I know I don't get one anymore. They want you to go to there web site www.ssa.gov if possible, or use the last one you received.

The annual income statement for tax purposes can be obtained on-line but for some reason, I found it easier to just call and have them send it.
