Hearing about it a few days later doesn't help the person who is rob, mugged or murdered the next day. The area, and the paper, is large enough to have a "Hot desk" where late reported items can be handled, and updated as quickly as possible. We all understand that the days of "Stop The Presses" is long gone, but putting the daiy to bed by 5PM, doesn't help or keep people informed in a proper way. They should consider editting stories up to a later time, like 9, 10 or 11PM. They will still have the paper available the next morning.
Just my thoughts.
