Coyotes do exist and do run in packs. In Southern California, our local golf course was taken over by coyotes, they were feeding on the feral cats. They had to be trapped and removed. They had become very aggressive, even in our town home area, the coyotes were jumping the fences to get small dogs and cats. We never left our Yorkies alone in the gated backyard, coyotes are fast, the dogs would never have a chance.
Since moving here, The Villages is alive with abundant creatures, including coyotes. We will not leave our dogs even on the lanai, coyotes will break through the screen to get their treat, my beloved Yorkies.
Be careful out there, we are the stewards of our pets.
