We were hit by "the tornado" and were covered by ASI. They had an adjustor here within 24 hours. Because of the number of claims that resulted from the tornado, ASI hired private adjustors to augment their own staff. He looked at all we showed him and then showed me some things that I had not seen (glass fragments in my kitchen cabinets, scratches on my sliding glass doors, and some cracked tiles in the shower). We had done a lot of the clean up ourselves and had purchased a wet vac, large paper trash bags, and all sorts of cleaning equipment. He asked us for the receipts and asked us to estimate how many hours it had taken us to do it. We gave him all the needed info. Two days later we received a call from the him asking us to come to the Villages insurance office. We went, thinking that he needed more info. When we arrived, he had a check for $8,000.00 to "get us started." Included in the check was the money for all of our cleanup supplies, plus an hourly fee for doing it ourselves. All in all, we felt very good about all of the care that we received from ASI, including their sending him out again when we found some other problems that neither he or us noticed at first.
Just a note, some of our neighbors had terrible times with other insurance companies, including one who had the adjustor agree to replacing his whole roof as the house was less than 6 months old and the damage was to almost 50% of his roof. Two weeks later, he received a notice from his insurance that the adjustor no longer worked for them and that they would not be replacing his whole roof, but only the 50% that had been damaged and that they were negating other decisions that he had made. This went on for 10 months. Another neighbor had a mechanic's lien placed on his house because his insurance decided after the fact that they would not pay for his gutter repairs because he added them after buying the house!
