I had a similar issue with my Sony TV. There was a class action lawsuit because Sony continued to use a critical component they knew had a high failure rate after one year. This would put the problem out beyond their warranty and, at that point, they were no longer responsible...so they thought. I believed they doubled the warranty to two years and, as with Samsung, they reimbursed for repairs.
In my case, when I purchased my TV I also purchased a 5 year warranty from Sony. Four years later when my TV failed because of the problematic component, I settled with Sony for $1400. I then purchased a new LED TV and it wasn't a Sony. I was fortunate, but there were many loyal Sony customers that got screwed.
