Why didn't Democrats do anything about farm and crop subsidies? Because they have no spine, either. To legislate against the subsidies would cost them their seat in Congress as no self respecting farmer is going to vote for someone who wants to take money directly from them. Sometimes it is huge amounts of money. As I said, I have farmer relatives who take in over $80K in subsidies each year in addition to their farm profits.

Unfortunately, I think farm and crop subsidies are here to stay and you and I will keep paying for them.
