Sorry - in my circle of friends, we call that a "retcon" - short for "Retroactive Continuity" where never revealed historical stuff is made up that keeps from invalidating the original while completely changing everything else. Like when a cat walks quickly across a room and bangs it's head into a sliding glass door because it didn't see it and then walks away with the "I meant to do that" look on it's face.
