Native Americans revere the bald eagle and use their feathers in rituals; this has been a sacred part of their medicinal pratices for hundreds of years. They will be allowed to take two eagles. There are a great many eagles in the wild now and they are threatened by the loss of their habitat not by Native Americans. Many bald eagles die from lead poisening because they now eat carrion killed by toxic ammunition. It's a serious problem for eagles; over 25% of eagles who are found to be sick or injured are found to have toxic levels of lead. There is a movement for hunters to use non toxic ammunition. Also, it's not unusual to find eagles who were killed by hunters in
the wild; in my mind the lead poisening and senseless killings are more serious problems for the eagles.
