I was getting that warning about "phone storage space is getting low" on my HTC Incredible and couldn't get it to stay away permanently. After an upgrade to a newer version of the Android operating system, the warning stopped. I never got a warning about text message space.
My advice --> Go to androidforums.com Scroll down and go into the section for the LG Vortex. You will probably find users with the same problem and, hopefully, find a solution. The HTC Incredible section of this forum helped me.
