I'm a vegan and I can tell you that vegetarian or vegan items are not always healthy. Take restaurant soup for example: It's usually very high in sodium. That's not healthy. The same is true for a soy-burger served on a white bun. It's high in sodium too and processed.
Your best bet would be to go to some place like the Golden Corral. Then you can pick and choose natural whole foods.
Better yet, eat at home. I didn't have any book to go by when I got started. I just made it up as I went along. I went to the store and bought lots of fresh non-starchy vegetables, fruit, legumes, whole grains, nuts and seeds, and olive oil for dressing. Then you make soups and salads by being creative and making it up as you go along. Anyone can do it.
