The question Van Jones was asked on MSNBC was about Obama's base. Jones was asked if Obama came out in favor of gay marriage, would he lose votes from his black supporters.


Jones can laugh and say anything he wants without any relevant follow-up questions, but recent polls show support for gay marriage isn't that great among blacks in America. I suppose that is one reason Obama has stayed on the fence and never come out in support of gay marriage in a manner that would please the LGBTQ groups.

The question from Alex Witt was, "Let's talk a little bit about the base though. And Van, when you talk about the President's position on some of this stuff, I mean does he lose, if you talk about black voters versus, um, you know, Progressive voters; Democrats, the idea of driving a wedge. Do you think President Obama would some of the black vote if he did in fact come out in support of gay marriage?"

Jones' response: "I think if President Obama came out as gay he wouldn't lose the black vote. President Obama isn't going to lose the Black vote no matter what he does. I don't understand this particular uh-uh-uh stategy on the...Certainly our numbers are a little bit more because we are more religious as a community. A little bit softer on some of this stuff. But it's not a hardcore issue for that many African-Americans..."
