Re: your question -

IMHO - - - I feel that the cost/benefit doesn't really play out in most cases. If you're going to buy one, though, you're probably in better hands with one from the manufacturer as opposed to having one from a third-party independent of the manufacturer. I'd think the manufacturer would be a more stable entity - better chance of them being around during the warranty period.

But it's like any other kind of insurance, it's a complete and utter waste of money.............until you would need it. Then if you have it, you're tickled pink and feel it was well worth the money you paid for it. If you don't have it, then you're probably not a happy camper.

We've never bought an extended warranty on anything........though a couple of years ago, it would've been kinda nice to have had one on our Maytag washer - it chucked the main circuit board less than a year after the factory warranty expired. But in the mix of things, I diagnosed and replaced it myself......for less than the cost of what the extended warranty would've been. Wouldn't have balanced out that way, though, had I called a service company to come and fix it.
