Default Memory Lane - "Going Steady"

I ran across this ad this morning. It's from a 1948 issue of Calling All Girls
magazine and it brought back memories of when we were young.

Preteens "split hearts". Girls wore one half and boys the other. Boys bought the set and, yes, you guys really wore them!

In high school we had "steady shirts" but in the '60's they were madras as I remember.

Wearing your guy's class ring was cool and required daily maintenance. Beside the requisite wax to adjust for size it had to be wrapped nightly in angora yarn that had to be matched to the angora sweater you would be wearing the next day. Woolworth's sold the yarn in 12" lengths which came in many colors. The yarn also had to be fluffed often during the school day!

Of course, that was before our "flower children" days!
