Thats about the worst advice I've ever heard. How do I know which end of the table is the head and they will come to? They just walk up and start shouting whats on the plates they carry. Many of you seem to have a strong support for waiters whether they are good or not, probably because you have relatives that are waiters. Do them a favor and educate them that their tip depends on good service, not just because they don't get paid well by the restaurant. For a waiter, stop by frequently, see if I need anything, keep my coffee or water filled etc. It's not my problem what the restaurant pays. Give me good service and get 20%. You are working in the real world if you are working in a restaurant which is hard work, but don't expect people to give you anything you don't work for.
