bridge burning implies a loss of something or other.

Since it was voluntary on his part, and being a politician know the result, the bridge burning was his intent, hence not a negative impact what so ever.

He is indicative of that growing group that never gets discussed....those who bought what Obama was selling in 2007/2008 and who now know they did not get what was promised....and most importantly will not buy what he is selling a second time. This is a group that could make a huge difference in the coming election.
