you might want to look into new smyrna beach:
Welcome to NSB Waterfront Loop
New Smyrna Beach, FL - Official Website - Visitor Info, Things 2 Do, Other Agency Links

here are a few suggestions based on the days when i used to haunt the east coast of florida:

hobe sound:
Hobe Sound Tourism, Community Parks, Museums and Attractions, Hobe Sound Performing Arts
from the brochure, "Hobe Sound has become the calm between the hustle and bustle of Stuart (north) and Palm Beach County (south). Natural beauty expresses itself in places like Peck Lake Park's wooden walkways. Blowing Rocks has stunning and picturesque sprays of water. Jonathan Dickinson State Park with its habitat, and other natural areas like the Hobe Sound Wildlife refuge at the north end of Jupiter Island."

and right next door is jupiter:
Jupiter Florida USA, the website guide to Jupiter, Florida!
with a great lighthouse to visit [and if it's still there - charley's crab retaurant was great when we ate there years ago! tables with inlet/lighthouse view - super]

if driving north of the jupiter/hobe area, once into stuart you can head east over the southern causeway and then drive north thru hutchinson island - beautiful scenery with ocen views sometimes. come back west over the northern causway and drive into jensen beach - a little bit on the order of oob.

of course, i used to love to visit palm beach for the ocean drive [passing mar a lago and former kennedy compound] and window shopping on worth ave! [Avenue Shops | Worth Avenue - you're not in maine any more! ]
