You can pay their fee for whole house surge protection of the electrical box...about six dollars a month and with it comes individual surge protectors for several appliances or you can buy a surge protector from them or another source, Lowes etc, and have it installed for about 200 dollars and buy individual protectors for each individual appliance. It is complicated but you need both the whole house and the individual ones...according to Lightning, a real expert who posts on here and does NOT sell lightning protection. We are looking into lightning rods after thinking for awhile they were not necessary. It will probably cost about 2K or above for them. Copper costs more than aluminum.
We have more lightning strikes in this area of Florida than in any other part of U.S. Seven homes in The Villages have burnt to the ground in the last eight years from direct lightning strikes. They have all been homes with gas lines.
