Then I come across these articles where Democrats agree that that's their game plan.

They need to seduce Republicans to go along with tax hikes to grow government. Reduce spending?; who's kidding who; not in the game plan.
Reveal Republicans as breaking their no new taxes rule and help themselves to the cash at the same time. it's a win-win.
