Just take into consideration that the tongue is a very strong muscle and much like SkyGuy79 states it does have sudden involuntary movement that is hard to control under certain circumstances, such as being numb or having a gag reflex as you possibly were being worked on at the time, it is unfortunate that it happened to you I'm sure it feels terrible do some saltwater rinses a couple times a day to help heal it. And just one other thought the assistant is not always holding the tongue it depends which side the doctor is working on, the assistant maybe holding the cheek. I hope you have a better experience next time.
