Rubio is not the choice of Hispanics other than Cubans so he would not be a big pull.
Alan West is too neo-conservative and would be seen as crazy as Palin was. Romney must have a moderate running mate no matter what the tea party wants.

I too see Portman as being Mitt Romney's choice. I actually think Sarah Palin helped John McCain get more votes than a more conservative pick would have had. All the attacks by Democrats and the media on Sarah Palin made many of the Tea Partiers vote for her even more quickly.
Since then it seems like Sarah Palin's major concern is with making money rather than with politics.
