You may have missed this important announcement of a Senate hearing to be conducted tomorrow at the Capitol.

The Senate Commerce Committee, chaired by Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D.-W.Va., will have a hearing 2:30 p.m. Thursday on "Medication and Performance Enhancing Drugs in Horse Racing" in Washington.

Let's see, there's the staff time to select the witnesses, prepare for the hearing, the time spent by the Senators, more staff time to document the hearing, and the expenses to bring the chosen witnesses to Washington. Yes, witness travel expenses are paid by...you got it...you and me!

So the Senate Commerce Committee apparently thinks the health and well-being of race horses is a more important issue than...oh maybe designing some much-needed improvements to ObamaCare...or beginning to discuss changes to entitlement programs...or how about what to do about the expiring Bush tax cuts or damaging spending cuts at year-end.

Y'know, if this happened in a profit-challenged private company, when told about something like this, the boss could reasonably be expected to say, "...wasting time and money on a hearing on WHAT? Who called the hearing? Give me his name." We all know what might happen next.
