There is a type of pet-proof screen. Just google 'pet proof screen' and you'll see many different types. We had it installed on our slider screen back home, the the cats couldn't snag it & the big dog couldn't tear it with her claws. It's much heavier than regular screen, and it costs a lot more, but it really works.
