Wow Cappy...so sorry that happened to you and your wife.
I've met a few folks that I wouldn't consider to be poster children for the Friendliest Home Town but not as abusive as the ones you encountered. Forget the 1 % and embrace the 99 %.
Since it happened both times in your cart, why not install a "street legal" plate on the rear of your cart. That way if someone's in a rush, they'll see it and maybe then they'll realize that they are in the wrong and must be speeding.
