Regarding my GE Appliances. We have lived in The Villages for 5 years, and were informed that the appliances and carpet would probably go in 5 years. By the way, when we were kids, the appliances in those days were built so well, you couldn't kill them if you wanted to. In our 5th year:
1. Ripped up the carpet in most of the house, and installed a laminete. Love it!
2. The garbage disposal fell down, and cracked while in use. Replaced that...found a new one through Craigslist in The Villages.
3. Had my own crappy Frigidare washer/dryer stacker....washer went.
Instead of buying a new set for $2000 on sale, went to Craigslist, and found a wonderful father/son business that refurbished the non-fancey Whirlpools. I called in the morning, he came in the early evening, with the appliances, removed my 5-year-old crap, and installed the reburished machines...Cost $330 total. Even if they go in a couple years, I'd still be paying for the fancy ones. And you know what? They clean and dry my clothes just fine.
3. One burner on the electric stove went. I lifted the top, found the part number, and bought a brand new one on Ebay. Got it for $40 (new) instead of $125 through the repairman, and did it ourselves.
4. The microwave died, but after checking on what it would cost to fix it, found someone in The Villages (Craigslist) who was converting everything to stainless steel, and sold the old Whirlpool to me for $100, unfortunately, that died 3.5 weeks later. Bought a new one in Sears (for what it would have cost to repair the 1st one), for $39 bought the 3 year extended warrantee. They come to your home every year to make sure it's working and will fix anything that's not. If they can't fix it, they repace it with a new one. In 3 years I'll extend it again, because we'll probably be replacing it within 2 more years.
Life is a challenge. I moved to The Villages for the lifestyle, not the house. I'm living and loving it here. I'm a frog, and will be here until I croak! **** happens! Get creative and deal with it! Put a smile on your face and enjoy what time you have left.
