If the ocean were rising in this area at whatever the rate, it would be rising worldwide at the same rate and it is not. This article does not even mention erosion! The truth of the matter is some parts of the earth rise and some parts sink. A subduction zone sinks and moves under another part that is rising. This phenomenon is what is causing the Himalayas to grow inches/year. One indisputable fact is that when a tectonic plate moves under or over another plate the earth shakes, better know as an earthquake. This part of the world is very active in this regard. I am disheartened to see that the weather channel's website would post such an irresponsible article without taking into account all the facts. It's shameful.
For those who feel that this is an issue only on the other side of the world which we can therefore ignore, or that people far from us don’t really count, do these articles bring the issue of rising sea levels closer to us? Or are there those who will say, well, they chose to be on the coast, whereas here in TV our elevation is 80–90 feet, so we can keep our heads buried in the sand and ignore it while criticizing not only the Weather Channel but also those who see this as a serious WORLDWIDE problem that affects ALL OF US?
