Just an idea, but if you are willing to have someone stay in your home, perhaps you could actually rent your home for the month of Dec. It is a much sought after month, and if someone could get a break on the rent for taking care of your cat, you might have a win-win situation. You could even go through one of the rental management companies, since you are not trying to make money on it, anyway.
You could certainly ask for references and you'll have a reasonable deposit and rent paid up front, so you are better protected as far as the house is concerned, and you can get a good feel for the person, as a cat sitter, by talking on the phone, etc.
Just thinking it might be easier to find a tenant than to find a live in sitter.....
