One caution...if you do add insulation, you may have a problem with condensation on the covered surface of the refrigerator, particularly on the freezer side. This is because that surface will be cooler than it normally is. The insulation (even foam) can then absorb the moisture and become useless. It may be possible to seal against the moisture, but it will be difficult. Even without the added insulation, refrigerators and freezers in the garage tend to get wet under some conditions.
