Virtually all of these various "independent" plans such as WalMart's Straight Talk and others operate by purchasing time from the major suppliers such as Verizon & AT&T. If you are buying onto one of these services your signal is riding on the same platform as somebody who has a brand-name contract with Verizon or another major supplier. Your signal is not being handled by the "Screen Door Cell Phone & Feed Mill Company of East Plowhandle Georgia", so your reception should not be a problem. For the most part, people who mostly just want to make a call are far, far better off on the different bundlers such as the WalMart plan than in signing an expensive contract with Verizon or AT&T. Personally, I have a Verizon contract, but I have to make heavy use of the internet & other services in my phone. Otherwise I would drop my Verizon like a bad habit and pick up one of these other plans. They are much more affordable for the average cell user.
