Rooting an Android phone is the same thing as jailbreaking an iPhone. After rooting the phone you can go in and delete a lot of the canned apps that came with the phone that you will never use.
I have an Android phone and it seemed that everyday I was updating the uTube app. I have the phone loaded and have moved as many programs over to the SD card as possible. I was still getting the running out of memory message. I finally decided to root the phone with Gingerbreak and then found a couple of other apps that allowed me to view and manage all the apps on the phone including the system apps. The first one I looked for was the uTube app and it was a true memory hog. I never look at uTube stuff on my phone so I killed off the uTube app and that ended the out of memory issues for a number of months until I installed newer cool apps and pushed the memory limit again. I now scaled back on some of the apps as I can get the same information in other places. just how many map and weather programs does one need?
