He would probably be glad to discuss how it was done and answer your questions.
Message from the Chief
Mike Tucker currently serves with The Villages Public Safety Department (VPSD) where he has been Fire Chief for 11 of the 13 years the department has been in existence. During this past year VPSD celebrated its 11th anniversary; Chief Tucker was named the 2011 Florida Fire Chiefs’ Association Fire Chief of the Year; and VPSD recently achieved accreditation from the Commission on Fire Accreditation International. This accreditation places the department in a rare class of only a couple of hundred fire departments world-wide that have earned this honor.
When the VPSD was formed, it consisted of nine paramedic and EMT firefighters and one chief. VPSD worked out of one station (Station #41 next to the Sumter County Annex) and served the community with two EMS vehicles (Ford Explorers) and one fire engine. Just as The Villages has seen explosive growth over the past ten years, your fire department has grown just as quickly to keep pace. During the period from October 1, 2010 through September 30, 2011, was no different. VPSD added to and upgraded our fire and EMS fleet, added staff to provide service to our ever-growing community, and even added a new fire headquarters facility on Morse Boulevard. VPSD continues to be active in teaching community CPR, working with neighborhood AED programs and expanding other areas such as fire prevention and emergency management programs.
The information contained on the website is a great reference tool which is periodically updated. Please contact VPSD if you have a need for clarification on the content of the materials located on this site.
