Being picky here, but Dish Network & Direct-TV are NOT cable companies. They are satellite broadcasters and are under an entirely different set of FCC regulations as to where they are allowed to serve and what they can provide.

Cable companies such as ComCast, Cox & Cablevision of Marion County are not only under FCC law, but also are ONLY allowed to serve specific communities where they have an actual local government-granted franchise, much like your electric or gas utility.

Operations such as the Verizon-FIOS product (which is not currently available in TV) is under yet another set of FCC regulations regarding telephone companies.
