I have a family member in her 30's who has been vegetarian for over 20 years and vegan for the last four or five years. Her cholesterol is high. We both laughed when she received a letter from her doctor advising her to first try to control it by diet, by reducing her meat, eggs, and dairy intake. She already eats no meat, eggs or dairy!!! I suggested she call the doctor and ask how she could reduce it from nothing. She needs statins. Her body produces bad cholesterol. This is a genetic trait, that, unfortunately, many in my family have. We are very grateful they now have statin drugs.
