I didn't open the email but came here to check the private message first because it seemed fishy. There wasn't a private message here for me so somehow the person behind the scam got my email from TOTV.

That is a bit scary.
I am so careful about opening attachments and yesterday I sent a bunch of Christmas letters by attachment and wonder if our friends are equally as suspicious.
BUT...you have to be. You can't trust messages from people you don't know. Or even people you DO know who have been hacked and it appears that the message is coming from them and then it is something entirely different or contains a virus.
You wonder how it can be stopped. I err on the side of caution and often delete emails from someone I don't immediatly recognise.
