This is no longer true.
On October 2 I posted the following information:

"If you ever rent your home and would like to provide a golf cart for your guests, you probably know that presently, no insurance company will provide liability coverage to protect you if you rent the cart.

That is still true. However, last Friday one well known company changed (or maybe clarified is the better word), their policies in this area to allow you to "give permission" to someone to use your cart, even if they are renting your home. If you do not directly charge a fee for the use of the cart and have a statement somewhere that you gave permission for it's use, both you AND the renter will be fully covered by the policy. Four local agents had to make a special appeal to the company's home office to get this interpretation approved. The policy is their standard one, and there will be no surcharges for this new 'extension' of coverage.

I don't want this thread to be removed because it is construed as advertising for a specific company. Send me a PM and I'll give you the details and a contact person who was involved in the meetings about making this change."

The company is Allstate. I switched from Progressive, at about $100, obtained through AAA, (which eliminated all liability coverage for owners and renters), to Allstate. The new policy offers higher liability limits, keeps them in force if you let a renter use the cart and costs me $64.
