Good post, LoriLind. My husband and I have noticed a few restaurant patrons behaving in a familiar manner and having worked as a waitress in my younger days, it's not pleasant.
If a waitress or waiter isn't extremely busy it's nice to engage in brief conversation with them other than food and let them know you see the person standing there. It's also nice, if one can afford it, to super-size the tip on occasion and not just wait for Christmas. It's very appreciated by the servers.
