I know, I watch too many of those "fix it up and sell it" home decorating shows. We removed the carpet in our office, in preparation for a new hard surface. I found a product sold by Home Depot and Lowes - self leveling cement which fills in the nail holes etc., caused by the carpet installation. Is there a company or individual who will put a poly decorative finish on the repaired floor? It looked easy on the HGTV show
