It is not a 100% guarantee that you will not get the flu, but it may lessen the severity and duration if you do get it. I believe I had the flu last week, but I was only sick for a couple of days as I got a flu shot a few months ago at work. I drive an 85 year old neighbor to church on Sundays, and she did not get a flu shot this season. She got the flu 2 weeks ago, and she ended up in the hospital with complications. Thankfully she is now getting better.
Wash your hands, cover your cough, cough into your sleeve/your elbow not your hands, and use hand sanitizer.
