Over 300 Canadians attended the Loonies and Toonies meeting on January 9, 2013, to listen to the guest speaker, Dr. Robert MacMillan of Medipac. His presentation was excellent and gave us an insight on how to live a longer and healthier life. As well, he gave a very positive review on the current situation between The Villages Hospital and Medipac. Our webmaster and his helper also showed us a slide presentation which featured our members that have had their photos taken by our crack photographers over the past two years.

Mike Palma (Just Mike) got a lot of Canucks on the dance floor during the social part of the evening. His enthusiasm is contagious. Our 50/50 winners of $75.00 for this month were .... Gail Meehan, Little Current, Ontario, Sheila McBride, Milton, Ontario, and Bill Barry, New Hamburg, Ontario. The winner of the Moncton Bankroll of $ 60.00 (all in one dollar bills) was Anne Marie O’Shea, Toronto, Ontario.

As always, we are grateful to Dave Horsman, Head Loonie, for all his hard work in making this Club vibrant and interesting.

Future Events:

Tickets for the Blue Jays baseball game at Dunedin, Florida on March 22, sold out quickly. Names are now being taken for the waiting list.

There are still about six spots open for the Snowbird Extravaganza trip to Lakeland, Florida on January 30. The buses will leave Laurel Manor about 8:00 am and return around 6:00 pm after a day spent at the show.

The Golf Tournament will be held on March 11 at Eagle Ridge (in the Del Webb complex on 441) about 5 miles north of Morse Boulevard. Please register asap if you want to play in this event. It is now filled, however there is a waiting list. Last year there were a few cancellations as people got unexpected visitors (the tournament is March Break week in a lot of places in Canada).

Now that we have an NHL schedule, tickets are available for a hockey game in Tampa! $65.00 per person includes first tier tickets and a bus for Tuesday, February 19, to see the Tampa Bay Lightning entertain the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Tampa Bay Forum. If you wish to attend, please advise Karen Morrison, Loonies & Toonies Events Coordinator, (ksm@sympatico.ca).

Information will be available shortly about the Guest Speakers for our February 13 meeting.

Please check our website for current information.
