If there are multiple outlets/receptacles on the same GFCI-controlled circuit, the first receptacle in the circuit will be the GFCI receptacle. The wiring for all the downstream receptacles in the circuit is done such that they are controlled by that initial GFCI receptacle as well.
If something should cause a ground fault issue at any point downstream from the GFCI receptacle, it will trip and cut the power to all the receptacles in the circuit.
