We had many unanticipated guests the first few years. You may be surprised how many friends you suddenly acquire! 
Now we have twin beds in the guest room, and a queen size pull-out sofa in the office. We keep a four-inch queen-size foam pad rolled up in the attic. It makes the pull-out sofa very comfy if we have overflow company.
